Start of the ‘Friendly Putty’ Series:

After finishing the Plaster Works series, many people told me that the pictures were quite gray and depressing, so I tried something lighter, friendlier, that should remind a little of white putty.

    Start of the ‘Plaster Works’:

After the 2021 flood catastrophe in Swisttal, I was inspired in an unusual way. Between all the destruction and during the subsequent reconstruction work, my eyes often fell on the walls of the houses, which despite their decay had a peculiar beauty – a conglomerate of old plaster, wallpaper and paint remnants, which I wanted to pick up and depict in their combination.
It took some development time and many failed attempts to work out the color scheme and texture to represent the beauty of a gray plaster surface on canvas. Many attempts were simply ‘just gray’ with the wrong feel and it was only the mixing with unusual color pigments and the right ‘texturizers’ that finally led to the goal. In the composition I wanted to exaggerate a little and therefore used quite small but very colorful elements to let the eye of the viewer wander over the surface from one spot to the next. Finally, a larger color area should symbolize the first stroke of a new coat of paint and contrast to the gray without being too bright.
